RCR Framework (5-year review)
The Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (the RCR Framework) must be reviewed by the three federal research agencies (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) every five years. The Panel and the Secretariat have prepared a number of proposed changes to the RCR Framework to provide greater clarity in response to questions and comments received from the research community since the RCR Framework’s launch in 2011. The Secretariat will launch a public consultation on the proposed changes that will run from January to March 2016. The Panel will then consider the feedback and make its recommendations to the Agencies. Approval of the revised RCR Framework is expected in late fall 2016.

RCR tutorial

The Panel and the Secretariat have been developing an interactive tutorial on the RCR Framework. To ensure that the tutorial reflects any revisions to the Framework, the tutorial will be launched after revisions to the RCR Framework have been approved.

RCR webinars and interpretations
In the coming year, the Panel and the Secretariat plan to launch new webinars on key RCR topics such as the definition of a breach, reporting requirements, and inquiries vs. investigation. The Secretariat will also continue to offer its interpretation service in response to individual requests. Commonly requested interpretations are posted on the Panel’s website. View the latest set recently posted, and stay tuned for more to follow in Winter-Spring 2016.

RCR Forum
In October 2015, the Secretariat launched the RCR Forum – an opportunity for all those involved or interested in RCR matters to discuss topics of interest during a one-hour teleconference every three months. Short summaries will be circulated following each teleconference. Contact the Secretariat to add your name to the RCR Forum distribution list.
